Historical architecture has been a pet interest of mine for many years. In New York City, during the 1970s, I participated in  the preservation and landmarking of the 19th century mansions standing between 5Th and Madison Avenues; these elegant homes were threatened by real estate developers too eager to tear them down and erect apartment highrises instead. Back then I lived at the Gould-Jennings Mansion located opposite the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
